Mixed Approach And Qualitative And Quantitative - 3421 Words

In this study, the mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative) is used since it is intentional integration and combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches features at different levels in research process and the research assumptions can be understood and corroborated deeply (Creswell and Clark 2007). The concept of mixed method emerged in 1959 when multi-methods were used to study the validity of psychological traits by Campbell and Fisk (Tashakkori and Teddlie 2002). Different terms have been used to refer to this method such as combined, multi-method, integrated method, hybrid, and mixed methodology research, but the term mixed method has been commonly used in recent articles (Creswell and Clark 2007). According to (Creswell 2008) the mixed method can be used within a single study or a number of studies in any program of inquiry. According to them, the main purpose of using this method is to maximize the strengths and reduces the weaknesses of either type of data since both forms of data are collected and combined to draw a more comprehensive picture of the problem than standing alone. Creswell, Fetters et al. (2004) point out number of identifiers to differentiate mixed methods research designs from the other methods. The relative importance of one form of data over the other is one distinguishing sign that could describe the mixed method design. Another metric is the order of data collection and analysis phases as well as the timing of the data collection,Show MoreRelatedThe Three Methods Of Research1201 Words   |  5 Pagesof research to include qualitative, quantitative and mixed, (Creswell, 2014). Qualitative research provides the life story through narration, so we are able to identify and understand the human and social situation, (Creswell, 2014). Quantitative research focuses on the statistics, to include analyzing experimental data or survey outcomes, (Creswell, 2014). This method establishes the numeric aspects of research. Explain your answer. Brief definition of homelessness The Australian Bureau of Statistic (2012) defines ‘homelessness’ based on a conceptual framework centred around three core elements. These include adequacy ofRead MoreThe Social Construction Of Experience1437 Words   |  6 PagesIn particular, qualitative researchers tend to focus more on the social-constructed reality and the contextual influence, interaction and constraints between the researcher(s) and the participants. They are interested in finding answers to questions that focus on the â€Å"social construction of experience and how meaning is created† (Cooper White, 2012, p. 15). However, quantitative researchers â€Å"emphasize measurement and analysis, and focus on product rather than process† (Cooper White, 2012, p.Read MoreSummary Of A Framework For Design By Creswell1536 Words   |  7 Pagesguidance for all stages of research. Using still existing framework also allows researchers formulate ideas recognized by audiences who support prop osals for research. This chapter introduces the reader to the three approaches to research quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. To understand them Creswell considers three framework elements: The type of assumptions which we have to make before starting practical research also known as knowledge claim; general procedures of research calledRead MoreThe Four Principles Of Mixed Methods Design968 Words   |  4 PagesThe assignment for this paper is to reflect on the four principles of mixed methods design (using a design that is fixed and/or emergent, using a mixed methods design approach, matching the design to the problem, and stating the reason for mixing methods) in regards to a planned study. This paper will briefly describe how these principles can be applied to the study. The paper will first describe the planned study. When conducting research, many researchers use the Scientific and Disciplined Inquiry Approach. By following a set of systematic steps, researchers are able to use both inductive and deductive reasoning to critically analyze topics of interest. These steps are known as the scientific method.
